KACARE’s Vice-President Dr. Waleed Hussein Abulfaraj received in his office Wednesday morning, 19 Jumada II 1436 corresponding to 8 April 2015 the Director-General for Energy and Climate Change at the French Ministry of Environment Mr. Laurent Michel. In light of the Agreement concluded between the Governments of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of France, out of which stemmed the formation of the Saudi-French Joint Technical Committee to follow up on the Agreement-related programs, KACARE has today 19/6/1436 corresponding to 8/4/2015 hosted the 2nd Meeting of the said Committee. On the Saudi side, the meeting was chaired by the Head of the Atomic Energy Sector, with the participation of representatives of the said Sector, representatives of Research, Development and Innovation Sector, and representatives of Legal and International Cooperation Affairs.
Co-Chair of the Meeting on the French Side was the Director-General of Energy and Climate Change Sector at the French Ministry of Environment, with the participation of representatives from Environment Ministry, Foreign Ministry, the French Embassy, Institute of Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety, and the National Agency for Radioactive Waste Management, and the International Institute for Nuclear Energy. The Opening Session was also attended by His Excellency the French Ambassador to the Kingdom Mr. Bertrand Bzansno.
The Agenda also included the discussion of those results reached by the Working Groups as well as ways and means to strengthen mutual cooperation in such areas already agreed upon as follows:
1. Cooperation in the field of Research, Development and Innovation in the area of nuclear energy.
2. Cooperation in the field of human capabilities building (training and education).
3. Cooperation in nuclear organizational areas.
4. Cooperation in the field of nuclear waste management.
It was also agreed that a number of memorandums of understanding be studies, in such areas as training and nuclear waste management so that they may be signed in the near future, and to submit a proposal regarding a memorandum of understanding in organizational and legislative fields. In conclusion, the French side welcomed the idea of hosting the 3rd meeting of the Committee in the French Capital Paris.
