KACARE and Saline Water Conversion Corporation signs a Cooperation Convention

9/2/2013

King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy signed a convention on cooperation with Saline Water Conversion Corporation on Thursday, 27/11/1434 H corresponding to 3/10/2013 G, for the study and development the uses of atomic and renewable energy (solar, thermal, wind, etc.) in the processes of water desalination.

Dr. Khalid Al-Suleiman, Vice-president for Renewable Energy at the King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy signed a convention on cooperation with Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Ibrahim the Governor of Saline Water Conversion Corporation. The Convention provides for the establishment of pioneer experimental stations for the most feasible technologies, in terms of science and economy, besides cooperation in other domains like research and furtherance of technologies.

It is worth mentioning that the desire of KACARE is in full accord with the strategic objective of the Corporation to diversify energy resources used in this vital sector, in its capacity as the main stronghold for the production of desalinated water in the Kingdom, being in turn, the vanguard of water desalinator, worldwide. The water desalination sector, for example, consumes around 300,00 equivalent oil barrels a day. This figure will probably progressively increase in the years to come, due to increased number of population on one part, and to scarcity of other water resources on the other.
